Sarah Hepola:

We are honored to have Sarah Hepola as the guest speaker for our upcoming Spring Celebration fundraiser! Sarah is the author of the bestselling , her gripping memoir about the years she lost to alcohol-and the self she rediscovered once she quit. Sarah will grace us with her insights into addiction and recovery. But there promises to be plenty of levity involved as well. Sarah’s writing is described as “wry, spirited, witty, poignant, and enchanting…”

Sarah Hepola is also a journalist whose essays have appeared in the New York Times magazine, the Atlantic, Elle, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Guardian, Salon, and Texas Monthly. She also contributes to the Dallas Morning News. Sarah lives in East Dallas, where she enjoys listening to the Xanadu soundtrack and puttering in her garden, when she remembers she has one. She’s the co-conspirator of “Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em,” a weekly podcast on what’s burning through the culture that she hosts with friend and fellow scribe Nancy Rommelmann. She’s the host and creator of the Texas Monthly podcast America’s Girls, an eight-part series on the lost history and cultural impact of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, a series that no less than Vogue magazine said “expertly complicates America’s cheerleading obsession.” Because of her extensive knowledge of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, she was the guest expert in the popular Netflix series: “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders”. You will be impressed with Sarah, but you need to buy your tickets to our Spring Celebration 2025.

Amy Anderson, Psy.D., LPC, MHA:

Last month Dr. Amy Anderson taught a class for the men here at Soul’s Harbor. She proposed to our men that one of the keys to balancing their lives in recovery is being able to recognize whether their thoughts and actions are in line with their core beliefs or their survival instincts. Addicts tend to live in survival mode, which can cause poor decision making. Amy was here to remind our men that although they may have done things in their addiction they are not proud of their core beliefs make them who God wants them to be. And so, Amy granted our men some tools to help them identify in real time whether they are acting from a place of survival or from spiritual principles.

Dr. Anderson specializes in Addiction Assessment and treatment consulting to help individuals find the best fit for their treatment needs when inpatient is needed. She has an extensive work history addressing and assessing Chemical Dependency and Mental Health Issues in renowned treatment facilities on the East Coast and in the South.

Just a friendly reminder that May 1st is our Spring Celebration 2025 fundraiser and that seats and tables are still available.
