Are You the Owner of Your Brain?

Pictured is Eddie Deen, world famous caterer. He is riding his “backward bicycle” – when you turn right it goes left, and when you turn left it goes right. This apparatus is part of Eddie’s “Owner of the Brain” seminar. Eddie has mastered this backward bicycle. It is almost impossible for anyone that knows how to ride a regular bicycle to steer his “backward bicycle”. Eddie is demonstrating how our brain is hard wired to react to situations. Every 6 months, Eddie comes to Soul’s Harbor to conduct his 5 week “Owner of the Brain” seminar. One of my favorite analogies that Eddie uses, is the “trail horse” vs “the cutting horse.” Some of our schools and workplaces do not want innovative thought leadership but want a “trail horse” mentality. One where we follow the same old path that everyone follows with the same routine and ugly scenery. Eddie suggests that we must be more like “cutting horses” by showing leadership and creativity. Cutting horses must separate a single cow from a herd of cattle. Eddie uses videos like the one below to show how a cutting horse works:

This intellectual seminar is part of the Soul’s Harbor holistic approach to substance abuse recovery. A side benefit is that Eddie brings his world-famous barbecue and feeds our 70+ guys.

Thank you, Eddie, for coming to Soul’s Harbor since 2009!!!

Smile, You’re on Candid Camera...

This is Miles. He is still at Soul’s Harbor. He has been clean and sober for over 3 months. As you can see, Miles used to not smile that much until he met Dr. Kenneth Wilstead, a dentist who came to Soul’s Harbor to participate in Eddie Deen’s “Owner of the Brain”. Watch the incredible video on our home page on how Mile’s smile was transformed.

Thank you, Dr. Kenneth Wilstead and his amazing staff, at Smile Again Dental in Garland, Texas for making Miles smile again.

By the way, Candid Camera was a popular TV show in 1960’s. Here’s a short video from the show:
